Gareth Barry adds a third for Villa to finally sink Rovers, the England international taking his time before slotting an effort past Brad Friedel.

1744: Garry Flitcroft comes close to getting on the scoresheet, shooting just wide for Blackburn.

1728: Blackburn appear no closer to getting back into the game as a dull encounter in the Midlands continues to go the way of Villa.

1713: Stefan Moore wastes a great chance to make it 3-0 for Villa within a minute of the re-start.

John Arne Riise's corner is headed home from close range by Milan Baros as Liverpool take the lead. Gerard Houllier's decision to leave Michael Owen on the bench is vindicated.

1402: The game gets under way at Upton Park as Liverpool kick-off.

Team news:

Aston Villa are unchanged for their game against Blackburn who include new signing Vratislav Gresko in their starting line-up with Lucas Neill and Andy Todd both suspended. John Curtis and Nils-Eric Johansson are also recalled, with Keith Gillespie dropped to the bench.

Michael Owen is left on the bench for Liverpool with Milan Baros preferred up front, while Vladimir Smicer replaces Bruno Cheyrou.

For West Ham, new signing Rufus Brevett is left on the bench alongside Wednesday's hero Jermain Defoe - with Les Ferdinand and Paolo di Canio the choice in attack.
