Keane buoys Hoddle

Hoddle says Keane is the missing piece in Spurs jigsaw
Glenn Hoddle believes Robbie Keane's stunning goal against Blackburn is a sign of great things to come.

The Tottenham manager believes the Republic of Ireland striker will be a huge success at White Hart Lane.

There was some bloody awful defending
Blackburn manager Graeme Souness

"That goal he scored showed what he's got in the locker, " said Hoddle.

"It was a fabulous goal and that's what Robbie gives us. Until he came, we didn't really have strikers that can manufacture goals themselves.

"He's off and running and I'm sure there's more to come."

Victory at Blackburn was secured by Jamie Redknapp's mishit shot in the last minute, which the Tottenham midfielder called "the flukiest goal of my career".

The loss was a bitter pill for Blackburn who forced their way back into the match through Egil Ostenstad's 59th minute strike.

Blackburn's Graeme Souness said his players were jaded after Thursday's Uefa Cup tie in Bulgaria.

"We expected some sort of reaction from our travels in midweek and in the first half we were a good yard off the pace.

"In the second half, it was different and we were a yard sharper and could have gone on and won the game. It is extremely disappointing.

"We lost to a fluke goal but it couldn't have been scored by a nicer guy," Souness said.

He was scornful at suggestions that there was little his players could have done to stop Keane's excellent goal.

"It might have looked spectacular when it left his foot and flew in the net but during the five seconds before there was some awful defending."
