Redknapp 'set for Spurs'
Jamie Redknapp has lost his battle to reclaim his Anfield place
A knee injury kept Redknapp out for 18 months
Jamie Redknapp is set to join Tottenham Hotspur from Liverpool for £1m, according to reports.

The 28-year-old midfielder was expected to undergo a medical at Spurs on Monday after rejecting a new contract at Anfield.

Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle is believed to be keen to complete the deal before this week's transfer deadline.

Hoddle had only 16 fit players to choose from for Sunday's victory at Fulham.

Slim hope

And Redknapp could offer him extra options in midfield as Spurs cling to the slim hope of snatching a European place with a late run.

Liverpool had hoped to hang on to their club captain.

They offered him an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of the season.

Redknapp wanted to stay at Anfield to repay the Reds for standing by him during his 18 months out with a knee injury.

But with Liverpool's current midfield resources, he cannot see a way back into the side.

And Gerard Houllier would rather accept a nominal £1m now than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.
