Manchester United welcome back Ruud van Nistelrooy and Juan Sebastian Veron from injury, and Diego Forlan starts. Ugo Ehiogu and Neol Whelan return for Middlesbrough.

Leicester give a debut young centre-back Jon Ashton at home to Leeds, who have Dominic Matteo in alongside England hopeful Jonathan Woodgate.

Everton bring in Jesper Blomqvist for 'flu victim Alessandro Pistone at Derby, who give a first start in goal to Swiss goalkeeper Patrick Foletti in place of the injured Andy Oakes.

Ricketts dropped

Ipswich recall Finidi George and Jermaine Wright partners Matt Holland in midfield against Aston Villa, who are without Juan Pablo Angel up front.

Bolton drop Michael Ricketts for the trip to the Valley, so Dean Holdsworth and Fredi Bobic start in attack.

Kevin Phillips and Claudio Reyna are back for Sunderland at home to Southampton, for whom Claus Lundekvam, Paul Williams and Chris Marsden all play.
