Alan Smith stunned Newcastle inside 30 seconds

Newcastle United returned to the top of the table after winning 3-1 against rivals Leeds. Leeds had the chance to go five points clear but after a great start, their day on Tyneside turned sour. Alan Smith scored the fastest Premiership goal of the season when he raced away and slotted the ball past Shay Given atfer only 28 seconds.
Newcastle equalised on half-time when Michael Duberry headed into his own goal. Kieron Dyer fired Newcastle ahead before Leeds defender Danny Mills was sent off for a kick on Craig Bellamy. A brilliant double save by Given denied Viduka and Smith before Bellamy netted Newcastle's third. Match report Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw against Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium. There was little to get excited about until Eidur Gudjohnsen put Chelsea ahead after half-time. Michael Ricketts equalised just moments later. but substitute Mikael Forssell restored Chelsea's lead with his second touch. Bolton salvaged a point when Kevin Nolan scored with the help of a deflection with just 12 minutes left. Match report Aston Villa enjoyed a 2-1 victory against struggling Derby County at Villa Park. Darius Vassell fired Villa into a 12th minute lead before Darryl Powell levelled midway through the half. The Rams had Francois Grenet dismissed for a professional foul on Lee Hendrie and it soon counted again them when Juan Pablo Angel headed Villa's winner. Match report
Tugay put Rovers ahead early on and Andy Cole scored his first Premiership goal for the club in first-half injury time. Charlton hit back with a goal from Jason Euell after the break before Scott Parker was sent off.
Craig Hignett and Matt Jansen rounded off Blackburn's win.
Everton increased Sunderland's problems as they won 1-0 at Goodison Park.
Fulham beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at Craven Cottage despite finding themselves behind early on. Boro defender Colin Cooper opened the scoring but Louis Saha - on as a subsitute - equalised just before the break. Fulham went 2-1 up in first-half injury time when Steve Marlet scored the winner. Match report West Ham left Leicester deeper in relegation trouble after winning 1-0 at Upton Park.
Paolo di Canio, possibly playing his final game before joining Manchester United, put the Hammers 1-0 up just before half-time. Match report Ipswich recorded their fourth win in five games with a 2-1 win against Tottenham at Portman Road. Marcus Bent put Ipswich ahead only for Gus Poyet to equalise just before the hour. Spurs looked destined to draw until John McGreal scored a late winner. Match report |
