Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel sends a long throw forward, only to see the ball bounce off the back of referee Andy D'Urso and straight into the path of Jari Litmanen. The Finn takes full advantage, stroking the ball into an unguarded net from 30 yards.

Liverpool leave new signing Nicolas Anelka on the bench for their trip to Aston Villa, Michael Owen joined by Jari Litmanen up front.

Fabien Barthez recoveres from a back injury in time to play for Manchester United at Everton, who give a first start to former United winger Jesper Blomqvist.

The start is Blomqvist's first since United's 1999 Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich.
