Wallace the Wanderer

Rod Wallace will give Bolton options in attack
Bolton Wanderers have signed former Rangers striker Rod Wallace on a contract until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old passed a medical on Monday and becomes the second player to join the club in the past four days following the signing of Bruno N'Gotty from Marseille.

Wallace scored 56 goals for Rangers in three seasons before leaving Ibrox in the summer.

"If he could get a similar ratio for us as he did for Rangers then that would be absolutely crucial to our success or failure this season," said Bolton manager Sam Allardyce.

Wallace began his career at Southampton before joining Leeds United in June 1991 in a 1.6m deal.

Fitness

He won the championship with Leeds in 1992, before joining Rangers in July 1998.

Wallace, who has been out of contract since the summer, has been training on his own in a gym.

"I think he has been disappointed he hasn't had as many offers as he thought he would have had. We have given him the opportunity to prove all those people wrong," said Allardyce.

But Wallace, who needs to work on his fitness, will not figure in the match against Blackburn at Ewood Park on Wednesday.

"The fact that he hasn't been with a football club since Rangers means we need to give him a bit of time to get to a level everyone else is at," added the Bolton manager.
