Premiership clockwatch
All the incidents and goals on the opening day of the Premiership season.
Results: Latest news first - scroll down for earlier action. 16:50 The final whistle goes at Filbert Street, where Peter Taylor's Leicester have been hammered 5-0 by surprise package Bolton. The home fans are not happy - and the "Taylor out" chants have begun already.
16:48 Within a minute Dennis Bergkamp scores a near identical goal as the Boro defence - without the services of sent-off Ehiogu - is run ragged. Robert Pires plays Bergkamp in down the left-hand channel and the Dutchman scores with an angled shot.
Middesbrough 0-3 Arsenal
16:44 Penalty to Arsenal at Middlesbrough. Gilles Grimandi plays Ashley Cole into the area, only for the England youngster to tumble under Ugo Ehiogu's challenge. Ehiogu is sent off - despite complaints that he did not touch Cole. Robert Pires scores with a composed penalty.
16:43 Bolton's extraordinary afternoon continues as Per Frandsen scores their fifth goal at Leicester, curling a sweet free-kick into Tim Flowers' net.
16:39 Everton, who were 1-0 down at Charlton, are now ahead, David Weir scoring from a corner.
16:38 Leeds double their lead at Elland Road, Alan Smith scoring after coming off the bench.
16:37 Liverpool go back in front against West Ham from another great goal from Michael Owen. Good midfield interplay from substiute Jamie Redknapp and Dietmar Hamman sets up Owen on the left-hand side of the area and he cuts inside before slanting a shot past Shaka Hislop.
Derby 2-1 Blackburn
16:26 Leeds go in front against Southampton, Lee Bowyer lashing the ball into the net in emphatic style from Ian Harte's corner.
16:26 Everton equalise at Charlton as Duncan Ferguson nets a penalty.
16:25 Derby go further ahead against Blackburn as Malcolm Christie converts Craig Burley's through-ball. 16:21 David Ginola comes off the bench for Aston Villa at his former club Tottenham, in place of ineffectual frontman Juan Pablo Angel. With Villa pushing on, Hassan Kachloul hits the post.
Charlton 1-0 Everton 16:16 Arsenal keeper David Seaman produces a stunning save, low to his right, to palm away Paul Ince's goal-bound strike. 16:10 Ray Parlour of Arsenal becomes the first Premiership player to be sent off this season. The England midfielder had already been booked - but he can still count himself unlucky to be dismissed for a second yellow card after a tackle on Ugo Ehiogu that was late, but not malicious. 16:05 Free-kick to Middlesbrough on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area at the start of the second half - but Colin Cooper thumps his shot into the Gunners' wall.
15:48 Bolton are now in wonderland after Per Frandsen, who made two of the other goals puts the promoted side four up at the break. Leicester are booed off the pitch by the home fans. Leicester 0-4 Bolton
15:46 Derby's new signing Fabrizio Ravenelli scores in first-half injury time on his debut. Craig Short concedes a free-kick and the Italian curls the ball into the top corner of the Blackburn net.
Middlesbrough 0-1 Arsenal
15:40 Bolton fans are pinching themselves as their team, who are favourites for relegation, storm into a 3-0 lead at Leicester. It is the same combination as the opening goal - Per Frandsen sends a cross into the area and Kevin Nolan claims his second of the match.
15:38 Penalty to Sunderland after Kevin Kilbane is brought down by Ipswich defender Titus Bramble. Kevin Phillips scores from the spot. 15:34 Michael Owen fluffs a simple chance to put Liverpool 2-1 up against West Ham. Unmarked in the six-yard box, he swings his foot at the ball - and misses it completely.
15:32 Bolton go further ahead at Filbert Street. Michael Ricketts out-muscles Leicester defender Gary Rowett and slams the ball into the roof of Tim Flowers' net.
15:29 Penalty awarded to West Ham at Anfield after Stephane Henchoz fouls Svetoslav Todorov in the box. Paolo di Canio takes the spot-kick - and he sends Liverpool keeper Pegguy Arphexad the wrong way with a cute chip.
15:19 Liverpool go ahead against West Ham courtesy of a superb Michael Owen goal. Gary McAllister's neat flick sends Owen through and he dummies his marker before slotting the ball past Shaka Hislop.
15:15 The first goal of the season goes to Premiership new-boys Bolton at Leicester. Per Frandsen sends over a right-wing cross and Kevin Nolan heads the ball past Leicester keeper Tim Flowers. 15:06 Michael Owen nearly puts Liverpool ahead against West Ham - but Shaka Hislop smothers the ball as the England striker is poised to shoot. 15:01 Middlesbrough's Ugo Ehiogu has to head clear from under his own bar as Arsenal cause immediate problems at the Riverside. 15:00 BST The eight Premiership games kick off.
Team news: Teddy Sheringham fails a fitness test and misses out on the chance of captaining Tottenham against Aston Villa at the start of his second spell at White Hart Lane. Former Spur David Ginola is named on the bench for Villa, who give a debut to ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. Robbie Fowler is left out of the Liverpool squad against West Ham, following his training ground bust-up with Phil Thompson. Unfit Emile Heskey is also absent from the Reds' line-up, so Jari Litmanen partners Michael Owen up front. Leeds boss David O'Leary selects Robbie Keane and Mark Viduka in attack against Southampton, who play German striker Uwe Rosler ahead of James Beattie. Click here to have your say on the action |
