Clockwatch: Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea
Liverpool's lead was short lived
Liverpool twice took the lead
All the action from Anfield where Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Michael Owen score two goals apiece

3 Mins: A cheeky backheel from Hasselbaink sets up Eidur Gudjohnsen for the shot, but he slashes it high and wide.

4 Mins: Patrik Berger gets onto a long ball over the top but slices it wide.

7 Mins: Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea. Michael Owen slips the ball over Cudicini to put Liverpool a goal up.

It is a beautifully crafted strike, Gary McAllister's delightful dummy from Berger's ball into the box setting up Owen for the opener.

12 Mins: Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea. Chelsea equalise, Westerveld failing to hold Hasselbaink's long-range bouncing shot.

Gudjohnsen congratulates Hasselbaink after his 35-yard effort found the net
Hasselbaink's 35-yard effort should have been saved
18 Mins: Emile Heskey is sent clean through but fires his shot straight at Carlo Cudicini.

20 Mins: Mario Melchiot wins a free-kick on the edge of Liverpool's box but Liverpool keeper Sander Westerveld easily hangs on to Graeme Le Saux's tame effort.

22 Mins: Gary McAllister concedes a free-kick after fouling Graeme Le Saux wide on the left but the set piece is wasted.

33 Mins: Owen finds himself clear but his side-footed shot is easily saved by the outstretched Cudicini.

36 Mins: Things get ugly after Markus Babbel brings down Zola.

A dozen players join in but peace is restored - only Hasselbaink finding his name in the book for diving after throwing himself to the floor unneccessarily.

43 Mins: Chelsea win a corner thanks to the industry of Gianfranco Zola but Hasselbaink cannot direct his header.

Half-time: Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea
49 Mins: Liverpool attempt to raise the tempo but Chelsea's back four remain firm.

53 Mins: Chelsea seem set to take the lead when Zola plays a sublime clipped ball into the box for Gudjohnsen.

But the Icelander fires straight at Westerveld.

56 Mins: A quick break and Owen almost puts Liverpool ahead as he attempts to find his second goal of the night.

But his curling right-footer is inches wide.

59 Mins: Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea. Liverpool win a corner and after a goal-mouth scramble, this time Owen nets with a sweet right-foot volley from close range.

64 Mins: Westerveld makes up for his earlier error, palming Hasselbaink's header over the bar.

66 Mins: Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea. Chelsea equalise through Hasselbaink's low drive.

69 Mins: Controversy as referee Dermot Gallacher awards a free-kick from ten yards after adjudging Le Saux to have made a deliberate back-pass to Cudicini.

But Hasselbaink deflects the ball wide.

79 Mins: Steven Gerrard looks like giving Liverpool the lead for a third time as he collects the rebound from a corner and closes in on goal.

But his clipped right-foot shot is fractionally high.

82 Mins: Gerrard is obviously hungry for the points but his long-range effort is tipped wide.

83 Mins: Sam Dalla Bona is given a free header but places it straight at Sander Westerveld.

The ball ricochets to three Blue shirts but it somehow goes out for a corner.

91 Mins: Substitute Gus Poyet wins a corner with a quick free-kick but hopes of a snatched winner vanish as John Terry's weak header is easily gathered.

Liverpool: Westerveld, Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Gerrard, Hamann, Berger, McAllister, Heskey, Owen. Subs: Smicer, Fowler, Murphy, Arphexad, Vignal.

Chelsea: Cudicini, Melchiot, Desailly, Terry, Le Saux, Morris, Dalla Bona, Wise, Zola, Hasselbaink, Gudjohnsen. Subs: de Goey, Babayaro, Leboeuf, Poyet, Jokanovic.

Referee: M Riley (Leeds)
