Foxes stop rot against Spurs
![]() Peter Taylor all smiles after Spurs defeat
Leicester 4-2 Tottenham
Goals from Robbie Savage and Steve Guppy in the last eight minutes ended Leicester's dreadful run of Premiership defeats. Twice Spurs came back from behind but the Foxes showed their defiance to win their first league match in nine games. Gary Rowett put them ahead on 42 minutes before Simon Davies struck for Spurs in a frantic second half at Filbert Street. Dean Sturridge put them back in front two minutes later before Stephen Carr hit a sublime free-kick five minutes later. That was just the prelude before a late Leicester rally and goal from Savage and Guppy. Leicester were quick out of the blocks and forced three early corners. Ade Akinbiyi had his shot tipped over the bar by Neil Sullivan after four minutes.
With the home side camped in the Spurs box, Sturridge beat Sullivan and Anthony Gardner to the ball from a Guppy corner and headed firmly against the bar. The ball bounced on the line and was cleared to safety. Flowers' opposite number once again showed why he has quickly become a favourite at White Hart Lane. Sullivan dived at the feet of Sturridge after he jinked inside the box after being put through by the ever-probing Andy Impey.
The biggest shock was not that Leicester took the lead on 42 minutes, but the scorer of the goal. Guppy again teased the Spurs defence with a deep corner, which was knocked across goal by Lee Marshall.
Rowett then slammed home assuredly for the home side to go in 1-0 up at half-time. The second-half came to life after just eight minutes when Sturridge shot into the arms of Sullivan when he should have scored. A minute later, Davies stabbed home the equaliser after being put through by Carr. The lead lasted just two minutes, before Sturridge elegantly slipped the ball into the Spurs net on 56 minutes.
For the final 20 minutes defending went out of the window, before Guppy found the winner after 82 minutes. Good work from Impey and indecision at the heart of the Spurs defence let in the former England man to grab Leicester's third. As the game entered the final stages, Savage grabbed Leicester's fourth from the penalty spot after Callum Davidson was upended in the box. Leicester: Flowers, Impey, Sinclair, Rowett, Guppy, Davidson, Lewis, Savage, Marshall, Sturridge, Akinbiyi. Subs: Royce, Jones, Benjamin, Gunnlaugsson, Delaney. Tottenham: Sullivan, Carr, Gardner, Young, Thelwell, Leonhardsen, Clemence, Davies, Sherwood, Doherty, Ferdinand. Subs: Walker, Etherington, Toner, McEwen, Piercy. Referee: M Dean (The Wirral).
