86: An opening for Babbel to shoot on goal is quickly closed down by Chadwick.

But, Heskey regains possession and his shot skims the outside of the United post.

78: A Beckham cross from the right causes some anxious moments in the home defence before a free-kick awarded in Liverpool's favour eases the pressure for the Anfield side.

75: Substitution - Paul Scholes comes on for the departing Nicky Butt.

Danny Murphy - sent-off

73: Gerrard gets in a defensive header to concede a corner from which Brown heads easily over for United.

68: Murphy is dismissed for a second yellow card received for a foul on Denis Irwin.

66: Yorke puts the ball in the Liverpool net only to be denied a goal by the linesman's flag for off-side.

The move had seen Keane play an incisive ball to Phil Neville on the right of the Liverpool area. He crossed low for Yorke to score before the off-side flag was raised.

62: Gerrard cushions a header into the path of Murphy on the edge of the United box.

The midfielder has time and space but his shot is comfortably wide.

59:Giggs produces a surging run from United's left flank and finds Beckham, whose shot is blocked and cleared by the Liverpool defence.

55: United engineer a good passing move as they attack the Liverpool goal.

It finishes with Beckham crossing for Yorke. He lays the ball into Nicky Butt's path but the midfielder's shot from 20-yards is comfotably off target.

49: United show some promising signs with a fast-moving passing move in midfield.

38: Liverpool foil a United attack and the visitors' threat on the home goal has decreased since the goal.

36: Fowler finds space but slips as he tries to meet Gerrard's sweeping cross.

Phil Neville
Danny Murphy - sent-off

26: Fowler touches the ball over Brown on the edge of the Man Utd area but cannot get a shot in because of the attentions of the defender and poor control.

19: The efforts on goal are coming fast and furious.

This time Jamie Carragher finds Berger, who turns and shoots, but his shot across goal is just wide.

18: A Roy Keane shot is only parried low down by Westerveld before Liverpool eventually clear.

16: Liverpool take the lead in spectacular fashion.

Fowler lays the ball into the path of Gerrard. He is allowed the time and space to line up a shot from 35-yards and takes advantage by arrowing a shot past Barthez. Liverpool 1-0 Man Utd

13: In an open and attacking game, Ryan Giggs forces home goalkeeper Sander Westerveld into a save from his 20-yard sot.

12: Hyypia gets in another header from a Liverpool set-piece. Again his header lacks the quality to defeat Barthez, who gathers.

11: The visitors pressure the Liverpool goal and defender Wes Brown is narrowly wide with a far post header.

9: Liverpool concede a free-kick a long way out from their goal but David Beckham attempts a shot on goal and wins a corner.

8: From the resultant corner, Hyypia gets in a header from close range but his effort does not have the power or direction to trouble goalkeeper Fabien Barthez.

7: A lively start to the game, and again Liverpool attack down the right with Markus Babbel providing a threatening cross into the United box.

Phil Neville gets in a vital clearance with Fowler challenging.
