Sheringham wins monthly award
Sheringham celebrates his goal against Kiev
Sheringham scored a crucial goal against Dynamo Kiev
Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has won the Carling player of the month award for October.

The accolade comes on the back of his winning goal against Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday and his five goals in four games during the month of October, including a hat-trick against Southampton.

The Carling awards panel said: "Like good wine, Teddy Sheringham just keeps improving with age.

"His ability to score and provide goals has been of great importance to Alex Ferguson in both the Carling Premiership and Champions League and at the age of 34, Sheringham is currently United's top scorer.

"He also has the knack of scoring very important goals when his club need him most - a very worthy recipient."

Arsene Wenger has been named October's Carling manager of the month.

The Arsenal boss receives the award after the Londoners won all their games in October with impressive victories over Manchester United, Aston Villa, West Ham United and Manchester City.

The panel said: "Arsene Wenger has long since established himself as one of the best managers in the game.

"His tactical awareness combined with his ability to manage the players has been the foundations on which Arsenal have built their success in recent years."
