Port Vale shrugged off the bust-up between manager Jim Gannon and his assistant with a win against Aldershot.
Gannon and Geoff Horsfield got off the team bus after an argument on Friday but John McCombe's tap in and a Marc Richards header secured the victory.
Vale keeper Stuart Tomlinson fouled Danny Hylton in the box but atoned by saving Anthony Charles's penalty.
Two minutes later the Shots got their consolation goal as Peter Vincenti toe-poked home past a stranded Tomlinson.
Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey: "We're disappointed but at the same time we created chances, and we know we didn't get to the heights we have done recently.
"There's a question mark over whether their keeper should have been on the pitch to save that penalty. I never want to see a player sent off, but if the referee books him then I'm not sure why he's not sent off.
"I need my players to be men and stand up and want the ball, and to put in good performances."
Port Vale manager Jim Gannon told BBC Radio Stoke: "We had some really good chances, at least ten shots on goal and it would have been a travesty if we hadn't come away with three points.
"The club have made a statement saying it's an internal matter that will be subject to disciplinary, so I think the most professional thing to do is to leave it in the hands of the club now.
"I think the club are looking to sort it out on Monday."
