Leam Richardson's late strike gave Accrington all three points at play-off hopefuls Cheltenham Town.
Terry Gornell gave the visitors the lead with a close-range finish that went through the legs of home goalkeeper Scott Brown.
Cheltenham, who struggled throughout, got back into the game through Wes Thomas' brilliant turn and strike.
Thomas had a chance to win it but headed wide before Richardson's volley gave Stanley a deserved win.
Cheltenham Town boss Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "It was a really scrappy game. Sometimes you have to win ugly and do things better than we did today. Our decision making was poor and there was very little in the game.
"They're a decent team. All over the pitch we made too many wrong decisions, we made too many fundamental errors when chasing the game. I'm very frustrated. We've got to look at ourselves. We didn't do the uglier side of the game well enough today.
"I wanted to win the game. I didn't come here for the point. But I just felt we were the team who should have gone on to win it, but obviously that didn't prove to be the case today, we've got a week to put it right."
