Mark Wright's hat-trick ensured that Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner emerged victorious over former club Hereford.

Wright opened the scoring with a 30-yard drive, doubling the hosts' lead with a volley from Mat Sadler's cross.

Shane Cansdell-Sherriff then headed in Wright's cross for Town's third, the winger completing his treble on 77 minutes when fed by Matt Harrold.

Hereford's misery was completed five minutes later when Ryan Green saw red for a reckless challenge on Sadler.

Wright is now Town's top scorer this season with 10 goals, after taking his recent tally to six in five games.

Shrewsbury stretched this season's unbeaten home record to nine matches to climb back up to fourth in League Two.

Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire:
"Mark Wright has a terrific sense of getting into the right place at the right time - and he's getting some good goals.

"The first goal was possibly the best we've scored this season, the other two showed good play and good execution.

"In the second half, we played as well as we have done for a good while and, on that showing, we deserved the victory."

Hereford United manager Jamie Pitman told BBC Hereford:
"We weren't at the races, we lacked discipline, courage and belief.

"By chasing the game we left ourselves open and exposed.

"They are a decent side, and scored good goals but at the end of the day we were poor."
