Lincoln City   0 - 0   Macclesfield

Lincoln City 0-0 Macclesfield

Lincoln City 0-0 Macclesfield

Lincoln had goalkeeper Rob Burch to thank for earning them a point in a goalless draw with Macclesfield.

He made a series of fine saves in the first half and when Nathaniel Brown's header got past him before half-time, Joe Anderson cleared it off the line.

Lenell John-Lewis and Davide Somma went close as Lincoln improved after the break, before Somma was sent off for an off-the-ball incident with Sean Hessey.

The home side's best chance was Matthew Saunders' shot, kept out by Jose Veiga.

Lincoln manager Chris Sutton told BBC Radio Lincolnshire:

"We played better with 10 men than with 11 and I felt on balance probably deserved to win but without ever doing it nicely.

"I think their player hit Davide first and he reacted so he got a straight red which is unfortunate for him but he's been fantastic for us and possibly the difference between us staying in this league and not.

"We must do better. We're looking to freshen things up for next season which is natural because we don't want to be in this position again."

Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester:

"I thought we kept the ball well, were patient, played some good football and it would have been nice to take three points but we kept a clean sheet and we'll take that home with us.

"It's been difficult this week when I've had to sit down and work out what we can keep and what we can't keep.

"Some of the lads that are going are model professionals and been absolutely fantastic but if I haven't got it I can't pay it."
