Notts County captain Graeme Lee left it late to salvage a point at home against Shrewsbury in Hans Backe's first match as manager of the Meadow Lane club.
The Shrews had gone in front on the half-hour mark; on-loan Jamie Devitt slotting past Kasper Schmeichel after being teed up by Dean Holden.
Shrews keeper Steve Phillips then saved a Luke Rodgers shot, Lee Hughes' strike and Ade Akinbiyi's turn and shot.
But Lee headed in Rodgers' cross to get County a point and keep them in fourth.
Notts County manager Hans Backe told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"We had problems in the first half with our passing game, every attack seemed to end up with stray passes and we lost the ball in bad areas.
"I would say much credit for the second half and we looked much stronger there. The way we looked in the second half and the way we bounced back I must say I am satisfied."
Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire:
"I'm disappointed we haven't got three points as I thought our performance was fantastic.
"It's always on a knife edge when it's 1-0 and we just switched off for a couple of seconds near the end.
"But we've picked up well for the whole of the game and some of the football we played and the way we worked was excellent, and there were so many positives.
"Silly as it sounds, it almost feels like a defeat."
