High-flying Brentford were brought back down to earth by a solid performance from mid-table Macclesfield.
Macclesfield created several chances, while the Bees' only effort was a tame Mark Phillips header from 10 yards.
The home side took the lead in first-half injury time when Emile Sinclair nodded over Ben Hamer before stroking home his first goal for the club.
The second came on 56 minutes when Ryan Dickson fouled Izak Reid and Gareth
Evans converted the penalty kick.
