Brian Little has eight games to save Wrexham's league status

Brian Little insists his players have been 'their own worst enemy' as rock bottom Wrexham look set to drop into non-league for the first time.

Wrexham's 3-2 defeat at Barnet has left the Dragons eight points from safety and have just eight games to extend their 87-year Football League status.

Little was furious at Chris Llewellyn whose foul led to Barnet's opener.

"Our very silly mistakes for no reason when the opposition are going nowhere keep costing us," said Little.

Llewellyn's needless foul on Albert Adomah on the stroke of half-time gave Barnet a free-kick.

And from the resulting set-piece, Nicky Nicolau's right-wing cross was headed into the Wrexham net by Barnet captain Ismail Yakubu.

"In most of our games there has been defining moments where we lose the game," said Little.

"Against Barnet it was with 15 seconds to go to half-time.

"I felt we were cruising at half-time and matched them easily and it would have been such a psychological boost to us.

"We made the mistake of fouling the guy when he's going nowhere and we've been punished for it.

"We didn't recover from that blow, we keep conceding bad goals.

"I can't fault the effort of my players but we can be our own worst enemy at times."

An acrobatic Anthony Thomas strike and a goal from Nicolau earned Barnet victory as Drewe Broughton and Simon Spender scored consolation goals for Wrexham.

This is deja vu for the Welshmen as Wrexham saved themselves from the dreaded drop into non-league oblivion on a dramatic final day of last season.

Five victories in their last six games ensured the Dragons' survival but the club were never, at any stage during last season's struggles, eight points adrift of safety as they are now.

But Little tried to rally his troops as he insisted: "I'm not a quitter and neither are my team so we'll keep fighting and do our best."
