Promotion-chasing Darlington survived a second-half mauling by visitors Barnet to hang on to three valuable points.
The hosts took the lead when Barnet failed to clear a long throw from Paul Mayo and Julian Joachim pounced with a low shot from the edge of the area.
On 30 minutes Darlington's Alan White felled Cliff Akurang in the box but David Stockdale saved from Josh Wright.
Neal Bishop, Albert Adomah, Wright and Ismail Yakubu all missed second-half chances to draw the visitors level.
