Isaiah Rankin scored his first goal since the opening day of the season as Grimsby beat struggling Torquay.
The visitors failed to clear their lines after Martin Paterson's direct run into the box and Rankin seized on the loose ball to score right-footed.
Rankin's 18th-minute opener was added to by Nick Fenton an hour later to give the Mariners a flattering victory.
Grimsby almost had a third when Peter Till's cross found Nick Hegarty, only for Nathan Abbey to make a sharp save.
