Ten-man Scunthorpe beat York to end their four month wait for an away win.
Paul Groves headed The Iron ahead and after York keeper Mark Ovendale fouled Andy Butler in the area, Steve MacLean made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.
The visitors were down to 10 men when substitute Jamie McCombe received two yellow cards but Groves made it 3-0 from close range soon after.
York, who went close through Lee Nogan early on, saw Lev Yalcin miss twice before Andy Bell hit a consolation.
He hooked home into an empty net from Stuart Wise's long ball with 15 minutes left.
