York were left cursing their luck after twice hitting the woodwork in a
goalless draw against lowly Southend.
Centre-back Chris Smith saw a header turned onto the bar by goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan before Dave Merris
saw a fierce drive rattle the upright.
The opening 45 minutes were dominated by the greater pace and imagination of the visitors.
Southend had more possession after the interval, although opportunities were
few and far between for both sides.
