Nine-man Bury had goalkeeper Glyn Garner to thank as they held on for a point against Torquay at Plainmoor.

The Shakers had Terry Dunfield sent off in the 11th minute for handling on the goalline, and Torquay's Alex Russell scored from the penalty.

Bury levelled just before the break thanks to a long-range effort from Chris Billy.

They were up against it once more when defender Danny Swailes, booked in the first half, was dismissed in the 62nd minute for his second yellow card.

From then on it was all Torquay as Garner and his brave defence tried desperately to hold on.

The home side hit the woodwork twice and Garner made at least six outstanding saves to frustrate the Gulls.
