Lincoln's sharp shooters gunned down Carlisle to secure three points at Brunton Park.

The tone was set as early as the sixth minute, when Paul Smith crossed for Chris Ward, who headed headed home from three yards.

Lincoln's second came 11 minutes before the break, Scott Willis curling a shot from the edge of the penalty area over and around goalkeeper Matty Glennon.

Carlisle boss Roddy Collins' anger was evident during the half-time interval - he gave them a team-talk on the pitch and kept them warming up for the full 15 minutes - but it had little impact on his side's showing.

Lincoln effectively put the game beyond Carlisle's reach midway through the second half when Peter Gain's left-foot shot from 20 yards bounced in off the underside of the crossbar.

Four minutes later Smith punished a mistake by Glennon, who completely missed a Peter Murphy backpass, to poke the ball into an empty net.

Craig Farrell gave Carlisle a 90th-minute consolation when he converted Craig Russell's cross.
