York 2-1 Carlisle

Peter Duffield scored his fourth goal in three games to give hard-up York a welcome 2-1 win in an exciting clash against a skilful Carlisle side.

Stephen Brackstone's 79th-minute inswinging corner was only half cleared, Jon Parkin headed goalwards and, with his back to goal, Duffield steered the ball home on the volley.

The Cumbrians had a double escape seconds later as Michael Reddy shrugged off a defender down the left channel and struck the post.

The ball fell into the path of Darren Edmondson, whose fierce drive cannoned off the crossbar.

However, City were left hanging on for their sixth game without a defeat when Craig Farrell was twice denied by in-form goalkeeper Alan Fettis.

The Blues came to life once Paul Robinson came on for Lee Maddison after an hour.

Reddy break

The on-loan Wimbledon midfielder missed a simple volley from five yards and tested Fettis from distance before he hit the equaliser.

Carlisle debutant and former Minsterman Jon McCarthy slipped in a neat ball and Robinson's shot just crept under Fettis' body and over the line after 73 minutes.

Reddy gave City the lead with his first goal for the club two minutes before half-time.

Edmondson played a slick one-two with Lee Nogan and delivered a low cross into a crowded area before Reddy controlled the ball superbly and his deflected effort left goalkeeper Matt Glennon with no chance.

The goal sparked trouble in the popular stand between the two sets of supporters, which had threatened to erupt in the first five minutes.

York chief executive Keith Usher made two appeals for calm and his request appeared to have been heeded until Reddy struck the opener.
