Cambridge 3-0 York

Cambridge ended a three-match losing run with a 3-0 win over York.

It would have been a very different scoreline if York striker Jon Parkin could have taken only half of the chances created for him.

Cambridge, by contrast, made the most of their opportunities, taking an early lead and then wrapping things up with two goals in as many minutes.

Dave Kitson fired them in front in the 13th minute, beating the off-side trap to run onto a through ball from Omer Riza.

But the story of the first half was of Parkin's misfortunes in front of goal, which started in the 17th minute when his close-range header was stopped by goalkeeper Sean Marshall.

That at least was a brilliant save but it was followed by Parkin rounding the keeper 10 minutes later only to have his shot cleared off the line by Terry Fleming.

In the 33rd minute Parkin headed over the crossbar from a good position and early in the second half miss-kicked in front of goal.

Cambridge rode their luck and in the 82nd minute Adam Tann banged in a close-range header from Shane Tudor's well-placed free-kick.

A couple of minutes later the scoreline became even more unlikely when David Bridges also got on the end of a Tudor ball to ram in a close-range header.

Cambridge Utd: Marshall, Fleming, Goodhind, Angus, Murray, Tudor, Wanless, Bridges, Riza, Kitson, Youngs. Subs: Brennan, Tann, Chillingworth, Nacca, Rush.

York: Fettis, Smith, Brass, Hobson, Edmondson, Bullock, Brackstone, Cowan, Parkin, Nogan, Duffield. Subs: Potter, Howarth, Wood, Wilding, Wise.

Referee: M Thorpe (Suffolk).
