Carlisle and Bristol Rovers toughed out a goalless draw at Brunton Park in a game which both sides had chances to win.

Carlisle started the brighter and were unlucky after just four minutes when Rovers keeper Scott Howie raced from goal to head the ball away from Brendan McGill.

The referee waved away claims for a Carlisle penalty in the 40th minute when Ritchie Foran was brought down in the box.

But less than a minute later he did award a spot-kick for Rovers for a foul on Paul Tate. But after dusting himself off to take the penalty, Tate sent the ball wide of the post.
