York striker Jon Parkin ended a superb Torquay comeback with his second goal of the game in a thriller at Bootham Crescent.

Peter Duffield struck his third goal of the season to put City in front after 15 minutes with a 22-yard strike which slipped through the fingers of keeper Jamie Attwell.

Lee Nogan extended the lead after 49 minutes when his effort from just outside the area crossed the line after hitting the bar.

Four minutes later Parkin thought he had put the game out of the reach of United as he raced on to a through-ball from skipper Chris Brass before chipping the advancing Attwell.

But the Gulls hit back with three goals in 10 minutes. First, Sean Hankin floated a 56th-minute free-kick into the top corner and eight minutes later substitute Marcus Richardson flicked in the second.

The visitors drew level just two minutes later when Matt Hockley met Howard Forinton's deep cross at the far post.

But Parkin snatched the winner 17 minutes from time to maintain the Minstermen's fine start to the season.
