Oxford 3-2 Rushden
Three goals in 18 second-half minutes gave Oxford their first home win of the season with a 3-2 defeat of 10-man Rushden and Diamonds.

The visitors had Jim Rodwell dismissed three minutes after the break, and although Oxford took full advantage of their extra man, they were given a late fright by the newly-promoted side.

Oxford opened the scoring after 51 minutes through Dean Whitehead and three minutes later Martin Thomas doubled their lead with a cool strike.

Phil Bolland looked to have sealed an emphatic victory with 20 minutes remaining when he fired into the net, but with time running out Diamonds staged a late fightback.

Duane Darby headed home five minutes from time, and as the visitors threw everything forward Darby claimed his second on 88 minutes, but despite a frantic finish, the home side held on.
