Oxford 1-2 Rochdale
Oxford kicked off the new season at the new Kassam Stadium but the change of surroundings did nothing to reverse their fortunes.
Oxford started brightly and Jamie Brooks should have put the home side in the lead after four minutes. But Brooks opted to shoot instead of laying the ball off to two of his team-mates who were unmarked on the right. Oxford's early pressure did not last and Rochdale gradually stamped their authority on proceedings. Michael Oliver's dipping 30-yard shot went just over, while a header from a Tony Ford free-kick went just wide. Dale were then rewarded for their efforts on 30 minutes when Matt Doughty curled the ball past Richard Knight. Oxford drew level after the interval when Brooks ran on to a long ball to lob the Dale keeper. Both sides then had goals disallowed before Rochdale wrapped up all three points, Simon Coleman meeting Ford's deep cross for the winner.
