Burton 2-0 Cheltenham - Highlights

Burton moved three points clear of the League Two relegation zone with a win over Cheltenham.

Greg Pearson netted from 15 yards after riding Andy Gallinagh's challenge but the referee brought play back, awarded a penalty and sent off the defender.

Pearson was not to be denied his goal and duly netted from the spot before Jacques Maghoma went close with a string of efforts.

He got his goal when he made it 2-0 from close range late on.

Burton remain in 22nd place in the table but are now three points and a game in hand clear of Barnet.

Cheltenham, with one win in eight outings to their name, remain in 16th spot.

POST-MATCH REACTION

Burton boss Paul Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby:

"It was a good win. A good three points, a clean sheet, a little bit of luck from the referee that we've been begging for quite some time now - I'm delighted.

"The fact he sent the lad off and we scored the goal settled the nerves a bit. It's three points closer to our target.

"But there's no time to relax, we're still far from safety."

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"I can't afford to be paying FA fines but the referee's had two big calls and I've seen the DVD - I've seen both incidents at half-time - and I think he's got both wrong.

"It wasn't a penalty, Gallinagh definitely played the ball and then he sends him off, so it's killed us...throughout the game, if any of my strikers made any challenge like that it was a foul. Unfortunately it meant that we couldn't, over the last 10 minutes, have a real concerted effort.

"I'm pleased with the effort, the commitment and the attitude of the players. I felt we started really brightly, had three great chances - and I just said to them we've got to take our chances as they come along - as clear cut as they came today."
