Hull 2-1 Carlisle
Theodore Whitmore
Theodore Whitmore faces a late examination
There was no respite for struggling Carlisle at the foot of the Division Three table as two first half goals secured a 2-1 win and all three points for Hull.

The visitors paid the penalty for defensive errors early in the game and were behind after only six minutes when goalkeeper Matt Glennon, attempting to clear, found David Brown 30 yards from goal and he cracked back a tremendous angled drive into the far corner.

And as the United defence continued to flounder, Jamaican defender Ian Goodison took full advantage of another mix-up to extend the advantage and score his first goal for the club with 22 minutes on the clock.

Hull dominated the rest of the half with Gary Brabin twice going close and they kept up the pressure after the break when Clint Marcelle hit the post.

But United battled back and after a succession of corners, Mike Galloway put them on the score sheet from the edge of the area with 20 minutes left but despite going close again in the final moments of the match as Galloway forced a fine save, it was too little to late for Carlisle.
