Brighton v Leyton Orient

Brighton 5-0 Leyton Orient

Glenn Murray scored a hat-trick as Brighton crushed Leyton Orient to maintain their League One title push.

Murray's first came when he converted Chris Wood's cross, before Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones palmed a Wood effort into his own net for 2-0.

A tap-in gave Murray his second and he grabbed his hat-trick when he converted after good work from Elliott Bennett.

Ashley Barnes scored the fifth with a close-range finish, while Orient's Adam Chambers hit the post late on.

This victory was Brighton's first in six league matches and was also Orient's first defeat in nine games.

Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex:
"The way the players performed was spot on.

"Glenn Murray has never been happier at Brighton in his three years here and that is a credit to the way we play and the atmosphere at the club.

"Leyton came with a plan to stop us and it took us 10 minutes to figure it out, but once we did it gave us an extra dimension to play."

Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade told BBC London 94.9:
"I thought we started OK - but that was the best it was going to get for us all afternoon.

"I didn't see it coming but there was a little bit of a gulf as the game opened up and stretched. We will work hard and hope to bounce back from this performance.

"They're probably the best side we have played in this division in terms of football. It's not ideal that we haven't played for three weeks but we will get on with it and work hard to put things right."
