Sheff Wed 1-0 Leyton Orient

Lewis Buxton's first goal in 54 matches gave Sheffield Wednesday victory over wasteful Leyton Orient.

Buxton headed in from Gary Teale's corner after half-time to leave Orient rueing a number of first-half misses.

Home goalkeeper Nicky Weaver tipped Alex Revell's header over and saved from Dean Cox, who also had a shot hacked off the line by Darren Purse.

But the Owls, who had been booed off at half-time, improved after the break to move back into the play-off places.

The hosts could have scored further goals in the second half but Marcus Tudgay missed two chances.

His first came after Darren Potter had pulled a cross back but Ben Chornley produced an excellent block to divert it for a corner.

Tudgay also later shot wide, although the O's had late opportunities to grab a point.

Last-ditch defending by Wednesday's Tommy Spurr denied Stephen Dawson, while Cox fired wide when well placed.

This defeat sees Orient fall to 23rd in League One and extends their run of away league matches without a win to 16, a sequence that dates back to January.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"It was not a good performance, but a good result and we're going to have to grind out some results.

"It's interesting because I went into the dressing room afterwards and there were a lot of disappointed players in there.

"Of course I'm not happy with the way that we played in the game overall, but we won and it's another clean sheet for us and it's another three points. We are going to have to win some points like that this season if we are going to get any kind of success at all."

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade told BBC London 94.9:
"I thought it was a remarkable display to be honest.

"I thought our energy and creativity was really good, we just didn't put the ball into the back of the net.

"We had five fantastic chances to score and it didn't happen."
