Brighton remain top of League One after a hard-fought win over Brentford.

Kazenga LuaLua grabbed the winner after skipping past two tackles on the edge of the area and firing past Ben Hamer.

Bees keeper Hamer had been the star of the show up until that point as he kept the home side out time and time again with a string of great saves.

Brentford then went close when Nicky Forster headed wide, Sam Wood rattled the bar and Casper Ankergren denied Kevin O'Connor's smart free-kick.

Brighton have gone three points clear at the top of League One, ahead of Bournemouth, who leapfrogged into second after beating Exeter.

Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex:

"They came here to make it difficult and they were successful in the first half.

"We started the second half better and, as soon as we had two or three chances, they started to believe it was possible.

"On another day maybe we would score two or three and then you can relax and make a few changes.

"Unfortunately we couldn't do it was nervous and complicated."
