Highlights - Swindon 1-0 Southampton

Swindon 1-0 Southampton

Charlie Austin grabbed the only goal as Swindon Town edged an open game to pile more misery on managerless Southampton.

Saints were the better team in the first half with Aaron Martin seeing a header thump against the crossbar and David Connolly also going close.

Dan Harding also hit the bar after the break but Austin, who just missed with a first-half strike, secured the victory with a six-yard volley.

Austin's day was marred when he was forced off with an arm injury late on.

Swindon manager Danny Wilson told BBC Wiltshire:
"I have to say I thought it was a cracking game, thankfully we've come out on top.

It was nip-and-tuck, not a great deal between two teams.

There's a lot been made of how we've started this season, I didn't feel there was a great deal wrong. We've come on leaps and bounds."

Southampton caretaker manager Dean Wilkins told BBC Radio Solent:"Everybody feels we have a big strong squad but you only have to look at the options on the bench when we go a goal behind it becomes difficult then."

"We're not scoring when we're on top and that's the biggest problem."

"I'm convinced if we go a goal up we win 3-0."

"Personally I think the sooner it (the vacant manager's position) gets resolved the better and then the new guy can come in and settle things down."
