Walsall 1-0 Colchester

Ten-man Walsall stunned Colchester with a stoppage-time Darren Byfield winner.

Referee Geoff Eltringham sent off Walsall's Mark Hughes even though he appeared to win the ball with a one-footed tackle near the halfway line.

But Walsall had the last laugh when Troy Deeney found lurking substitute Byfield and his low shot trickled past Colchester keeper Ben Williams.

The result marks the second time in eight days that Colchester have lost to a team reduced to 10 men.

Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex:

"We created enough chances, but were not clinical enough in front of goal.

"We have hit the crossbar, hit the post, had a goal disallowed and we had done enough to score a goal, and we didn't.

"If you don't score, then there's always the opportunity that what's going to happen to you happens."
