Matthew Richards scored with a stunning free-kick to set Walsall on their way to a comfortable win and leave Stockport deep in relegation trouble.

The Saddlers midfielder struck in the 37th minute when he rifled home a left-footed shot from 30 yards out.

Striker Darren Byfield added a killer second in the 56th minute when he converted Troy Deeney's low cross.

Stockport were denied a late penalty appeal when Peter Thompson went down under keeper Clayton Ince's challenge.
