Adam Boyd's late goal sunk former club Leyton Orient and lifted Hartlepool into League One play-off contention.

With eight minutes left, summer recruit Boyd struck the decisive blow when he diverted Colin Larkin's deep cross past Orient keeper Glenn Morris.

Boyd had earlier seen a close-range shot blocked by Ben Chorley as the home side dominated proceedings.

Scott McGleish came closest for Orient but his angled volley was well saved by home keeper Scott Flinders.
