Walsall   2 - 2   Southend

Sam Parkin's injury-time penalty rescued a point for 10-man Walsall.

The Saddlers led when Steve Jones nodded in Darryl Westlake's free-kick but Dwayne Mattis was sent off for a second bookable offence after an hour.

Lee Barnard levelled for Southend after home keeper Clayton Ince inexplicably threw the ball straight to him.

Dougie Freedman then headed in to make it 2-1 but Southend celebrations were cut short when Simon Francis felled Parkin and the striker smashed in.

Southend United manager, Steve Tilson told BBC Essex:

"Again disappointed, I don't think we played well today but to get yourself 2-1 up so late in the game, you've got to kill it off and take the three points.

"It's a poor penalty to give away, Lee will be disappointed, we've won the game, they're down to 10 men, they don't look like scoring and its a naive challenge but the ref couldn't wait to give it."
