Huddersfield   3 - 1   Southampton

Jordan Rhodes scored two second-half goals as Huddersfield beat Southampton despite visiting keeper Kelvin Davis making a string of fine saves.

Rhodes tapped home the rebound after 49 minutes when Davis parried his penalty, awarded for a trip on Lee Novak.

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert levelled after 54 minutes with a header that went in off the bar.

But Rhodes put Town back in front with a glancing near-post header and Anthony Kay headed a third late on.

Huddersfield manager Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds:

"I thought we were very good. We've set the standard now and the players have got to live up to that.

"I've got so many options on the bench, players that can come on and make an instant impact.

"Lee Novak has been fantastic since the first day he came in and all the players know that. I just wish he could have got himself a goal."

Southampton manager Alan Pardew told BBC Radio Solent:
"We didn't cope with Huddersfield well at all. They had a grip of the game and had more energy.

"Through the core of the team we didn't cope today. We played too direct at times.

"Getting back in at 1-1 flattered us but we conceded a poor goal. This was a very bad day at the office."
