Crewe were relegated to League Two after being well beaten by League One champions Leicester.
The Alex, who needed a win to have any chance of staying up, threatened early on and Shaun Miller and Gylfi Sigurdsson both missed opportunities.
James Bailey also hit the bar for the home side before Bruno Berner put Leicester ahead from 30 yards.
Lloyd Dyer's prodded strike made it 2-0 and Matty Fryatt's cool finish, his 32nd goal of the season, sealed it.
