Southend 2-0 Brighton

Southend moved fourth in League One as two goals in six first-half minutes earned them victory over Brighton.

Darryl Flahavan saved a Glenn Murray effort before the Shrimpers took the lead, Mark Gower controlling a long ball and rifling in from 20 yards.

It was soon 2-0, Gower feeding Adam Barrett, who scored clinically from the left-hand side of the penalty area.

Murray and Nicky Forster both had shots saved by Flahavan but Southend held on quite comfortably for the win.


Southend: Flahavan, Francis, Clarke, Barrett, Mulgrew, Black (Grant 73), Bailey, McCormack, Gower, Barnard (Revell 79), Walker (MacDonald 85).
