Teenager Matt Thornhill stepped off the bench to score his second Nottingham Forest goal and earn them a point in an entertaining game at Southend.
The hosts bossed the first half and went ahead when Hal Robson-Kanu slammed home after James Walker's flick header.
Forest improved after the break and got their equaliser when fellow sub Nathan Tyson crossed from the left, before Tyson flashed a fierce drive wide.
Southend nearly won it, but Mark Gower saw a shot parried away by Paul Smith.
