Port Vale striker Akpo Sodje scored four goals as they ran riot to beat struggling Rotherham at Millmoor.
Sodje struck an 18-minute hat-trick in the first half, first heading past Gary Montgomery and then firing in after the hosts failed to clear a cross.
He completed his treble with an unmarked header from Danny Sonner's corner and George Pilkington made it 4-0 by rifling home a Sonner free-kick.
Delroy Facey's shot pulled one back but Sodje slotted in again to make it 5-1.
