Northampton were grateful for Andy Holt's superb goal-line clearance as they held on for a draw at fellow League One strugglers Chesterfield.
The defender somehow cleared from under his own crossbar from substitute Wayne Allison's powerful 71st-minute header.
That was the best of only a few chances in a scrappy game, though Kevan Hurst also came close for the hosts when his free-kick was well saved by Mark Bunn.
Northampton's best chance saw David Hunt's effort blocked by Barry Roche.
