Stuart Elliott scored in each half to lift Hull up to third in the table with a victory over tired Brentford.
Bees keeper Stuart Nelson had already denied Nick Barmby and Stuart Green before Elliott beat him with a header from Marc Joseph's right-wing cross.
Brentford, whose FA Cup replay win over Bristol City ended just over 40 hours before this game, rallied and John Salako sent in some dangerous crosses.
But Elliott sealed it with a long-range effort which bounced in off the bar.
