Leon Knight increased his season's tally to six to give Brighton their first win
in four matches with victory over bottom-of-the-table Chesterfield.
Knight struck on 33 minutes with a well-taken shot after a defensive slip by
Kevin Dawson.
Brighton midfielder Nathan Jones, back from a three-match suspension, almost
doubled the lead with a first-time effort and substitute Chris McPhee was also
denied by goalkeeper Carl Muggleton.
However, the Seagulls struggled to play flowing football and Chesterfield made
things difficult for them despite going down to a fourth successive defeat
during which they have failed to score.
The Spireites never gave up battling and former Middlesbrough midfielder Mark
Hudson sent a fierce low drive inches wide late on.
