Cheltenham survived just one season in Division Two
|
Cheltenham slipped out of the Second Division after losing 1-0 at Notts County.
The goal came five minutes before the break when Darren Caskey found Mark Stallard on the right and his cross was perfect for Danny Allsopp to nod his 12th goal of the season.
Cheltenham started the game third bottom but knew that if they won and Chesterfield failed to win at Blackpool they would stay up.
The Spireites were held to a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road - meaning Cheltenham would have survived if they had won at Meadow Lane.
Before that Cheltenham skipper Mark Yates had rattled the crossbar with an 11th-minute header, and he was denied again in similar fashion in the second period.
This time Yates saw a curling shot from 20 yards frustratingly rebound from a post with goalkeeper Saul Deeney stranded.
